Redefining Perspectives On Trauma

by Bliss Shala September 06, 2018

Instead of asking ‘what is wrong with you?’, we can ask ‘what happened to you?’

Putting on trauma informed lenses to understand the behaviour of others can bring new perspectives. It can also be liberating.

Im so glad to learn that organisations like SAMH are becoming more aware of trauma informed care practices, as they shared this information in their trauma informed talk.

Possible events of trauma could include household challenges such as parental separation, family members suffering from mental illness, substance abuse or domestic abuse and even poverty or unemployment.

While many of these factors are commonplace, it’s the combination and severity of them that can trigger a trauma response.

Less judgment, more acceptance 💓
